Samir’s works are deeply rooted in the essence of displacement. He strives to portray the feelings of those who have been isolated or displaced from their homes. He works extensively with ink, graphite, charcoal, and layered techniques, while also exploring performative gestures using his own body as a tool. Using materials local to the Eastern region of India such as white clay, mineral colours, cow dung, indigo, and coal tar, he traces the movemnts of rivers within the shifting geographies of the Indian terrain. His works embody the tensions between memory and territory, evoking both personal and collective experiences of movement, instability, and belonging.
Samir lives and works in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
