SHIMRAN CHATTERJEE b. 1992
Shimran Chatterjee (b. 1992, New Delhi) completed her BFA in Printmaking from Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Shantiniketan, West Bengal, 2014, and MFA in Printmaking from College of Art, New Delhi, 2016.
Her works have been exhibited in group shows at Karsheong, Darjeeling, 2011; Kala Bhavana Annual Art Exhibition at Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, West Bengal, 2012; International Print Biennale, Yerevan, 2019; and National Gallery of Modern Art, Delhi/Mumbai, 2024-25.
She was awarded the Kalanand Award from the Prafulla Dhanukar Art Foundation in 2017. She was selected for the Winter Residency at Space Studios, Vadodara, 2025-2026.
Her practice stems from a deep appreciation for nature, using Kantha to reflect her traditional roots and cultural background. Her art shifts with her mood and emotions, unbound by mediums or tools, yielding intricate, labour-intensive works that depict development's impact on nature and the female body.
Shimran lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat.
