PRITHWIRAJ MALI b. 1978
Prithwiraj Mali (b.1978, Bargan, West Bengal) completed his BVA and MA in Sculpture, Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, 2002, Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S.U, Baroda, 2005.
His works have been exhibited in group shows at AIFACS, Ahmedabad, 2002; Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2004; Indian Ceramic Triennale, Arthshila, New Delhi, 2024; and The 12th Gyeonggi Ceramic Biennale, Korea Ceramic Foundation, South Korea, 2024.
He has attended residencies at Kanoria Centre for Art, Ahmedabad, 2002; Lalit Kala Akademi, Chennai, 2003. He received the Lalit Kala Academy Research Grant, 2008-2009.
His practice is rooted in the socio-cultural environment of his upbringing near the Sundarbans in West Bengal, where natural calamities, migration, and socialist ideologies informed his early artistic outlook. Over the last decade, his work has moved toward architectural dimensions, often engaging with global issues while remaining deeply tied to material explorations of clay and sculpture.
Prithwiraj lives and works in Baroda, Gujarat, India.
