Overview

Owanka Bhattacharjee (b.1989, Kolkata, West Bengal) completed her MFA in Ceramic Art and Pottery at the Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, in 2018.

Her works have been exhibited in group shows at the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata, 2016; The India Story, 2018, 2019; CIMA Award Show, 2019; Kalananda Art Contest, Prafulla Dhanukar Art Foundation, 2019; 149th and 150th Annual Exhibitions, Government College of Art & Craft, Calcutta, 2019.

She was awarded the Best Sculpture Award, Birla Academy of Art & Culture, 2020. She was the recipient of the Junior Fellowship in Ceramic Art, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, 2019 - 2021.

Her practice is rooted in ceramics, evolving from conceptual object-based works to a deeper exploration of clay’s natural textures and rhythms. She embraces its plasticity and raw essence to create forms that balance space, movement, and introspection.

Owanka lives and works in Kolkata, West Bengal, India.
