NISHANT KUMAR b. 1998

Nishant Kumar (b. 1998, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh) completed his BFA and MFA at Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalay, Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, 2023, 2025.

His works have been exhibited in group shows at Khairagarh Mahotsav, 2022; Sonabai Rajwar Art Gallery, Khairagarh, 2023; and Abhivyakti City Arts Project, Ahmedabad, 2025.

He was selected for Residency at Space Studios, Vadodara, Gujarat, 2025.

His practice is rooted in bridging traditional Indian art narratives, especially Krishna Lee and local practices like Pichwai, with the intricacies of contemporary art. Nishant explores devotion and spirituality, encompassing classical, mythological storytelling in his artworks. The minimal use of colour is deliberate, to put focus on the soft but strikingly layered visuals, which stand out due to their three-dimensional perspectives. He portrays his thoughts as moving images frozen in time, showing his views on responsibility, loss, and balance in life.

Nishant currently lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat.
