Namrata Kumar b. 1987
Namrata Kumar (b.1987, New Delhi) received her Diploma, Visual Communication Design, Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology, Bangalore, 2010 and is currently pursuing her MA at the Royal College of Art, London, United Kingdom.
She worked with multiple design studios as a visual communication designer, before establishing an independent practice as an illustrator, painter, and ceramist in 2018.
Namrata’s practice is rooted in illustration, painting, and ceramics, and demonstrates an enduring fascination with colour as a transformative force. She is drawn to deep, saturated tones that generate immersive and contemplative visual environments. Structured around the use of geometric forms, she uses restraint as a guiding principle in her work. Decisions of omission are as crucial as what she chooses to include, allowing visual silence to actively shape compositional balance and meaning. Her oil-on-paper paintings range from serene monochromatic studies inspired by the Bombax tree’s blossoms to dynamic multi-coloured compositions influenced by textile weaves. More recently, her work has expanded toward an investigation of geometric structures that mirror the patterns found in nature.
Namrata lives and works in New Delhi, India.
