Tathagata Paul b. 1995

Overview

Tathagata Paul (b. 1995, Kalyani, West Bengal, India) completed his B. Tech., Civil Engineering, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal, 2017; MBA, Public Systems from the University of Calcutta, 2021 and MFA, Shiv Nadar University, Delhi NCR, 2025. His works have been exhibited in group shows at Abanindranath Gallery, ICCR, Kolkata, 2019; Jamini Roy Gallery, ICCR, Kolkata, 2020; Art Houz, Chennai, 2020; Nazrul Tirtha, Kolkata, 2022; Method, Kala Ghoda, 2023 and Kochi-Muziris Biennale, 2025.

 

He has been a part of KHOJ Peers Share, Delhi, 2022. Tathagata has worked as an Art Educator for Creative Hands, 2020–2022 and served as a Teaching Assistant at Shiv Nadar University 2023–2024. Since 2023, he has been a member of Khandera Art Space. His work and practice were also featured in Positivity Magazine, Issue 04, 2020.

 

Tathagata’s practice explores land, labour, ecology, and systems of control through painting, installation, video, and performance. Engaging with the landscapes of the East Kolkata Wetlands, he investigates ideas of memory, extraction, displacement, and ecological precarity through materials such as soil, jute, maps, and found objects.
