Somnath Sarkar (b. 1994, Nadia, West Bengal) completed his BFA, Painting, Bengal Fine Arts College, Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, West Bengal, 2017, and MFA, Printmaking, Indira Kala Sangit Vishwavidyalaya, Chhattisgarh, 2020.

He has attended residencies at Lalit Kala Akademi, Lucknow, 2021–22; Nine Fish Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2023; I.P.E.P, Maharashtra, 2024; and Dot Line Foundation, Mumbai, 2024. He was selected for the Lalit Kala Akademi Garhi Scholarship, 2021-22.
Somnath’s practice is rooted in printmaking and painting, where he experiments with materiality and form while navigating between traditional techniques and contemporary visual languages. Incorporating discarded elements like plastic and fibreglass in his process, he pushes the boundaries of printmaking by portraying the resilience of nature and humankind. With a sustainable outlook, his printmaking subverts conventional narratives and creates immersive and thought-provoking artworks.
