  1. How many artists will be selected?

A total of two grantees will be nominated by Space118 Art Foundation. Deliberations will be based exclusively on the quality and potential of the submitted materials. Applications that do not meet the submission criteria will not be considered.

  1. What will the selected grantees receive?

The selected artists will receive: 

  •  A fully paid research trip for two chosen applicants to Sharjah, UAE, for the March Meeting (MM) of the Sharjah Biennale organised by the Sharjah Art Foundation for 7–8 days (25 March - 1st April 2026). 

  • Flights and transportation to the Emirate of Sharjah

  • Accommodation and food

  • A daily stipend 

  • Access to Sharjah Art Foundation’s extensive institutional networks and resources


  1. When and where will the grant programme and the post-grant workshops take place?

The grant programme will take place in Sharjah, UAE, from 25th March - 1st April 2026. The post-grant workshops will take place for 1-2 days at the India Art Fair in New Delhi in February 2027. 


  1. Who can apply for the grant?

Indian nationals with a valid Indian passport who have completed at least five curatorial projects and are interested in developing curatorial research in the context of Indian contemporary art. There is no age limit.

 

  1. What kind of candidates will be preferred?

Preference will be given to those with a background in:
- Contemporary art theory
- Museum/gallery curatorial work
- Long-term, non-commercial curatorial research
- Interest in international collaboration and exchange

 

  1. Is there an application fee?

No, there is no fee to apply.


  1. What is the per diem I will get in Sharjah?

The per diem will be 180 AED x 7 days = AED 1260 total

 

  1. What if I cannot commit to the workshop?

Both grantees must conduct a 2-day workshop at the India Art Fair (IAF), New Delhi, in February 2027. This is mandatory, and the dates will be informed in advance.  

 

  1. How should I submit my application?

Send your complete application (maximum size 25MB) via email to space118grant@gmail.com by December 20, 2025, 12:00pm.

 

  1. Who evaluates the proposals?

An external panel of experts will review all applications. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an online presentation.

 

  1. Do I need to credit the donor or Space118 Art Foundation?

Yes. All future use of the work/research/presentations produced in relation to the grant must credit: Supported by Space118 Art Foundation.

  1. Are Indian artists abroad or international artists allowed to apply?
    Only Indian residents with a valid Indian passport are allowed to apply for the Space118 Art Foundation Curatorial Research Grant, 2026.


  1. What will be the language of instruction and communication for this grant programme in Sharjah?

English will be the only language of communication and instruction.


  1. What will be the language of communication for the workshop at India Art Fair?

English will be the only language of communication and instruction.


  1. Will the grantees have to pay for anything during the course of the grant?

The return ticket airfare to and from Sharjah, accommodation for the entire period of travel, all meals, taxi transfers to the airport and return, and daily allowance (per diem) will be given to the grantees. Any expenses over and above the inclusions will have to be borne by the grantee.
