Akshata Mokashi (b.1994, Thane, Maharashtra, India) completed her BFA, Textile Design, Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai, 2016 and pursued MA, Textiles & Fashion, Heriot Watt University, Scotland, 2019.

Her works have been exhibited in group shows in India and abroad at Chemould CoLab, Mumbai, 2025, 47-A Design, Mumbai, Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh, Kate Derum and Irene Davies International Tapestry Award Exhibit, Melbourne, Australia, Exhibit 320, Delhi, David Hall Gallery, Kochi, 2024, Lalit Kala Akademi, Ahmedabad, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2023, MAP, Bangalore, 2022, Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh, 2019. She has exhibited at Art Mumbai, 2023 and India Art Fair, 2024. Additionally, she has been conducting weaving workshops at D.Y.Patil, Nerul and MET, Nashik, Maharashtra. Akshata is also the weaving faculty at Art Village, Karjat; CSMVS, Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, Mumbai and Space Studio, Baroda.

Akshata uses unconventional ways of weaving tapestries, on her frame looms. The medium comes naturally to her and she weaves as if she's nurturing and growing something over time. She works with natural fibers like wool, cotton and silk, sourced both from her travels abroad and across India. These are dyed using natural dyes and she often collaborates with artisans and weavers in her process. She is drawn to the rivers she encounters in her travels, absorbing experiences from diverse places. In response to the shifting realities of climate change and pollution, her tapestries reflect these waters as pure or starkly real.

Akshata lives and works in Thane, Maharashtra, India.
