ALLAN BINNS England, b. 1984

Overview

Allan Binns is an artist/curator who predominantly works in film, installation and performance. Since graduating from Loughborough University’s School of Art & Design, 2009, Binns has exhibited, curated and held residencies both locally and internationally at venues including ArtLacuna (London), Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik (Berlin) and Studio X (Mumbai).

 

He has performed Marvin Gaye Chetwynd’s Home Made Tasers at venues including Nottingham Contemporary (Nottingham) and New Walk Museum & Art Gallery (Leicester). Binns performed Jérôme Bel’s The Show Must Go On with the Candoco Dance Company at venues including Sadler’s Wells (London), Nottingham Playhouse (Nottingham) and Tramway (Glasgow). As a curator and organiser of independent art exhibitions and events, Binns has orchestrated several Arts Council of England funded projects including NOTLOST – a 28 event, citywide independent arts festival. In 2011, Binns teamed up with Asia Art Projects’ Elise Foster Vander Elst to produce Project India; a cross-cultural collaboration, initially taking the form of a group of short term residencies and culminating in a series of exhibitions and events across Mumbai.

 

Binns is the co-founder and director of Bohunk Institute (Nottingham); a non-for-profit multidisciplinary project space set in the heart of Nottingham’s vibrant Creative Quarter.
