Tanjima Kar Sekh (b. 1988, Asansol, West Bengal, India) completed her Bachelor’s in BTech, MA, History of Art, National Museum Institute, Delhi 2018 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Dept. of History and Culture, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. She has conducted several group and personal workshops on Miniature Art, Mughal Flowers, Pigment making and Islamic Illumination at several venues like the KNMA.
Tanjima is captivated by the symmetrical mughal structures dominating Delhi's skyline and the grandeur of these structures has left a lasting impression on her. She developed a keen interest in the miniature painting traditions of India, particularly the Islamic illumination prevalent in Mughal miniatures. This fascination led to a research on Islamic patterns and ornamentations in Mughal art and architecture. Since then, she has been dedicated to creating contemporary paintings that incorporate these traditional patterns, aiming to preserve and reinterpret the past. A brief stay in Udaipur provided invaluable insights into color making and brushwork along with mentorship from Professor and Curator, Minhazz Majumder and American art collector Mitchell Abdul Karim Crites who have played a significant role in her journey.
Tanjima Kar Sekh lives and works in New Delhi, India.
