Shanmuk Tamada (b. 1988, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India) completed his BFA, Painting, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, 2011. His work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across India, Art Heritage Gallery, New Delhi, 2025, State Art Gallery, Hyderabad, 2024, Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, 2023, CIMA Awards Show, Dhoomimal Art Gallery, New Delhi, 2017, AIFACS Annual Exhibitions in 2017, 2016, and 2014. He has received several grants and awards including the Junior Fellowship Grant, Ministry of Culture, Government of India, State Art Gallery Award, Hyderabad, 2018, Kalanand Art Award, Mumbai, 2017, S.G. Vasudev Scholarship, 2017 and 2016, Human Resource Development Scholarship, 2014.
Shanmuk artistic practice combines introspective themes with architectural and structural imagery. Omitting the human figure, his work reflects on urban alienation, memory, and the psychological dimensions of space. His layered surfaces and obstructed grids reinterpret built environments, offering visual critiques of modern life and urban transformation. Through this abstraction, he explores how environments shape perception and internal states.
