Her work deals with the idea of home and memories by re-introducing the spaces and objects from dilapidated and abandoned or vacated architecture as a source to trigger an experience. By drawing upon these spaces, the temporal state of the house is attained which is now nearly left to ruin. The images in her work are mostly taken from her ancestral home in Shahbazpur, Uttar Pradesh. Focusing on the architecture of home and its psychological implications, aiming to create a metaphysical experience, the work takes shape consisting of exploration in various mediums which are two-dimensional, sculptural, on-site development and installation. While constantly introspecting, the layers and mark-making in her works becomes a way to reflect and converse with the subconscious state.
Payal Rajput lives and works in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
