Deepanjali’s practice explores unspoken emotions through intricate imagery, drawing from personal experiences and studies of botany and microbiology. Being raised in the conservative society of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh and later transitioning to Gujarat, she uses botanical elements as metaphors for suppressed feelings, symbolizing feminine energy, beauty and freedom. She uses coffee- and tea-toned paper to evoke the feel of an old diary, where nature and the body blend together, reflecting one another. Having explored diverse media like printmaking, etching, stop-motion animation and videography, her recent shift to painting has deepened her connection to her work. Inspired by her time in Shantiniketan, her practice is a journey of self-discovery, using nature’s symbols as a means of expression.

Deepanjali Shekhar lives and works in Vadodara, Gujarat, India.
