Deena's anti-war series has its origins in her heritage as a member of the warrior hamlet of Madhapar in Kutch, Gujarat, India, and as a descendant of those who fought in the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. She discovered several archival images of military heroes, and studied the aforementioned conflict and its participants especially women, to create a range of printed artworks.
Deena Pindoria (b.1991, Kutch, Gujarat, India) completed her Bachelor’s in Painting from Ahmedabad, 2020 and her MFA Graphic Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts, MSU of Baroda, 2022. Pindoria has taken part in many Group shows in India including at Amdavad ni Gufa, Ahmedabad 2020. She was awarded a scholarship grant by Kala Sakshi Art Scholarship 2022 and her works were also selected by ABIR First take which was held at Bikaner House, Delhi 2022. Deena has dedicated years to her study, and experimentation with Ajrakh block printing, natural dyes, and earth pigments on materials like modal silk, cotton fabric, handcrafted papers, and rice papers.
