RANU MUKHERJEE USA, b. 1966
“My invitation came at the right moment- thank you! It was the right time for me to finally come to India and Bombay/Mumbai as an artist. I have loved being here in the studio and have begun to make work, which I can only imagine how long it will continue to unfold. This place, in the middle of Mazgaon, in a city as magical and insane as Mumbai- it is a neo-futuristic extravaganza. The scale of the place, the magnitude of ongoing change, the gently crumbling and constant building and the generosity and helpful nature of everyone I have met here. In some way it is a brilliant mirror and monstrous too and that, I love. I feel as though I’ve had years of experiences in one month, yet it was too short, and I will be back! I’m leaving with new materials and a free heart.”
